BRITISH COLUMBIA HYDRO & POWER AUTHORITY
Letter to Chant Construction
From John M. Boots, Estimating and Scheduling - Engineering
Richard McGivern of Chant Construction Company Inc. was selected to assist BC Hydro estimators in preparing an estimate update of the Site C Hydroelectric Project proposed on the Peace River. Richard was an excellent choice as he was very familiar with the estimating software "EBC Chief Estimator" and knowledgeable in estimating this type of work. Richard worked with our estimators to input the concrete and earthwork cost estimates into EBC in the format that we estimate our costs at BC Hydro. His knowledge of heavy civil construction was an asset to the estimating team and because of this his assignment was expanded. Part of Richard's expanded scope was to update our computer labour model that assisted us in estimating the project's labour requirements by trade and type of work.
In his work, Richard demonstrated a commitment to understanding BC Hydro's cost estimating requirements and was quick and accurate in his work. He also demonstrated that he could work effectively on his own and his contribution to the estimate update was instrumental to the overall success of this assignment.
Richard undertook significant workloads and always met or beat deadlines. He established high personal work standards and is well respected by our estimating team here at BC Hydro.
We were all sorry to see Richard leave once the assignment was completed as he gave us good service as well as great comic relief. I would recommend that we would hire Chant Construction again for this type of assignment and in particular Richard. We wish him well in his future endeavours.
