Ojibway Power and Energy Group Ltd. (OPEG) is a limited partnership of the Lac La Croix First Nation and Chant. The majority shareholder in the partnership is the First Nation, who also has a majority position in the General Partner entity.
The OPEG partnership has been structured specifically to pursue
the development of hydroelectric potential on the Namakan River
in North Western Ontario. On January 4, 2006, the Minister
of Natural Resources Ontario announced that OPEG had been awarded
the rights to develop three sites on lands that are co-managed
by the Lac La Croix First Nation and the Crown. OPEG can now
pursue the approvals necessary to build the waterpower facilities
and market the power production.
